How Important Is It To Learn Baby Care?

How Important is it to Learn Baby Care?

The greatest gift a parent can give to his or her newborn baby is love. Baby care is one of the best gifts a parent can give to her child. I personally think love is the best thing you can give to your child. This is because it never gets old and it’s permanent.

Avoid Rush

So many parents rush into baby care issues and get lost in the chaos. I have a story to tell about what happened to me when I was first getting started in my career as a pediatrician. I had just graduated from medical school, had a one-year waiting period. Then, I was asked to apply for a small pediatric position. The position was in San Diego, California.

I was in my early twenties, had not worked as a doctor for more than three years, and needed a job. I applied and received an interview and was accepted. During my interview with the prospective employer, he asked me about my background in pediatric care and how I trained to become a pediatrician.

Pediatric Training

During the interview, I told him about my pediatric training and my desire to start working in the field of baby care. Then I went on to tell him about my experience as a nurse and how I got my certification as a nurse practitioner.

I told him about my many years of working as a nurse during which time I had not only delivered many babies. But also as a nurse who had delivered many children. Some as a new mother and some as a maternity nurse. I was surprised by his question about my years of experience and as I thought, the job offer was too good to refuse.

Baby Care Practices

We got down to business and we talked about care practices and his philosophy of baby care. We talked about what I had done as a nurse and how I became a certified nurse practitioner. Then he asked me about my years of experience working in the care practices of infants that were bornas a new mother.

His questioning seemed to be going well until he mentioned the word “pediatric” and I reminded him that I was a pediatrician. Then he asked me if I had ever cared for any patients who were born as a new mother.

I told him the story of one patient who was my first birthplace. She was born as a new mother and required a series of surgeries that required intensive care. I was so touched by her courage and tenacity that I decided that I would become a pediatrician. Just to be able to help another new mother in this position.

Personal Experience About Baby Care

Although, I was nervous about being a pediatrician because I did not know much about it, I could not help myself. I decided to take the job. After all, it seemed like a challenging and rewarding career.

In fact, I had no choice but to take the job and my newborn baby boy was born a few months later. I remember how happy I was when I saw my first newborn baby and thought to myself, “I did it! but finally did it!”

I still think about that day. The experience of my first year in baby care. The truth is that the days and months that I spent working with infants who were born. As a new mother gave me the confidence to join the ranks of pediatricians. And I continue to get challenged to become a pediatrician today.
