You can follow some simple steps to develop this habit of reading in your child.

You Need To Start At A Young Age And Retain The Habit

Infants who are only a few months old can look at photographs and recognize your voice. They can also point towards particular objects present on the cardboard. You can begin with guiding your child when they are aiming at the pictures and then say their names. This simple task can help your child in learning the importance of language.

Children find learning the sound of language more attractive than the printed words on a page. Thus, when you are reading books to your children, you stimulate their imagination. It also boosts their language and listening skills.

You must read aloud with your child even after he can read by himself. It helps in motivating them to strengthen their skills.

It Should Be A Part Of Your Life

Even though a parent’s life is hectic, he must make time for his child. Try reading with your child at least once a day. Try doing it at a scheduled time daily. Your objective should be to read to your child whenever possible.

In case you have more than one child, you must spend exclusive time with each child. Try reading separately with each of your children. It is more important if their age difference is more than two years. If this is not very convenient for you, you can also read with them at the same time. Familiar or comfortable stories help your children in learning to read faster.

Have Time To Go Through It Once Again

There might come a time when your child wants to read the same story every night. It is quite natural for your child to favor a particular book. It might be boring for you, but your child’s favorite story says a lot. It can help you in understanding your child’s interests. Thus, you must be calm and patient. You must expose your child to the joy of reading. You will eventually find them ready for new stories.

Talk About The Stories

Talking about the story you just read is undoubtedly a good idea. However, it is not necessary to do so after every story. It does not matter whether you have a conversation about it or not. Sometimes, your child might need time to process the story you just read. Thus, you should not be surprised if your child mentions an extract after a day or two.

Try Advertising The Joy Of Reading

As a parent, your main objective must be to encourage your child to read often. Thus, you need to advertise the same to them through good stories and poems.
